Biography

Gavin Anderson is a trombonist, music educator, and arranger based in Corning, NY. He currently teaches 7-12 Instrumental Music in the Bath Central School District. Gavin also serves as the Assistant Manager of the World Civic Orchestra.

Gavin has performed with many groups across many styles, including the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, IC Wind Ensemble, IC Jazz Ensemble, IC Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, IC Trombone Troupe, and many chamber ensembles. Gavin has also performed with different groups in internationally acclaimed events like the International Trombone Festival, Jack Rudin Jazz Championship, American Trombone Workshop, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the Syracuse International Jazz Festival.

Gavin has shared the stage with many amazing musicians, including Alexa Tarantino, Wayne Bergeron, Mike Titlebaum, Eric Marienthal, Victor Wooten, and Jason Marsalis. Gavin can be heard on an upcoming album release with the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble (2026) featuring never before recorded works by composer Dana Wilson. Gavin also performed with the IC Symphony Orchestra in 2025 when they were named a finalist for the American Prize.

Gavin is the trombonist, and one of the principal arrangers, for the Embers Low Brass Trio. This chamber group, based in the Finger Lakes region, actively performs new works for Trombone, Tuba, and Euphonium. They completed their first tour in January 2025, visiting 6 public schools across New York State.

On top of performing, Gavin is very passionate about teaching and education. Gavin has held a private studio of students consistently for the past 4 years that he teaches both online and in-person. Additionally, Gavin has presented clinics at the Conn-Selmer Educational Institute Northeast.

Gavin holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (‘25) from Ithaca College. His principal teachers include Will Porter, Jeff Dunn, and Russell Scarbrough.
